With winter fast approaching, thoughts may start to turn to the upcoming ski season.
Unless we encounter some of the deep snow the region received last December, it is extremely rare that the South Coast will feel like an Alpine resort.
For ski enthusiasts looking to shake off the cobwebs before flying to the traditional resorts, or for those wanting to know what the fuss is all about, take a visit to the Southampton Snowsports Centre. Located just a couple of miles north of the city, the artificial slopes give the perfect opportunity to learn or develop ski & snowboarding technique without the cost or need for real snow.
The centre consists of three nylon bristle covered slopes, 110m, 90m and 30m in height and all the latest ski, snowboarding or snowblading equipment is available to hire. There are all levels of classes that can be taken from learning the basics through to ski and snowboard instructor courses when there is sufficient demand.
For groups looking for a little more light hearted fun, rather than serious lessons, ringos are operated on the 90m slope. A real alpine chalet serves as a refreshment or function area to relax après ski.
