Listed visited the launch of the Lighthouse’s Carte Blanche circus season last month, which debuted with the extraordinary performance, Petit Mal, from Finland.
On a stage littered with garage debris, three young men interacted through a fusion of break-dancing, martial arts and hip-hop movement. They fought, dragged each other down, and picked each other back up, using props such as tyres, poles and a trampoline. Showing incredible balance, flexibility and dexterity the three men performed tricks with everyday objects that left the audience breathless, nervous, and exhilirated.
We were really impressed with the show, and are looking forward to these other circus events this season:
Inside Out Festival 2010 Le Rêve D’Herbert
La Compagnie des Quidams and Cie Inko Nito (France)
Saturday 18 September - Poole High Street and Quay
Mysterious, white, stilted figures will appear. They wait and beckon, inviting everyone to follow them. Step by step, they are transformed into huge figures, leading the audience on a nocturnal procession through the town onto the Quay.
The Mill by Okhams Razor (UK)
Friday 15 to Saturday 16 October - Lighthouse
Daring physical theatre on aerial equipment. In The Mill, the world of Okhams Razor revolves, quite literally around a wheel of wood and steel suspended six metres in the air.
Le Grand C by Compagnie XY (France)
Saturday 23 to Sunday 24 October - Lighthouse
French circus spectacle of 17 nimble performers creating a 360 degree alternative universe of acrobatics, dance, music and human pyramids.
