For those who hate being cooped up in a gym or lack self-motivation, then military fitness sessions might be just what you’re looking for.
Before you start kitting yourself out in camouflage, don’t worry these classes don’t involve rolling around in mud or being barked at by a grumpy drill sergeant. The outdoor aerobics classes are designed to allow people to get fit in a team with others, with an instructor providing motivation to push you further.
Saying that, the ForcesFit classes in Winchester are run by serving and former members of the Armed Forces, so don’t expect an easy ride!
The pain is worth the gain however, British Military Fitness, who run classes in Bournemouth, Poole and Southampton, say that the average total calories burned during a session is 640, though this figure can rise much higher.
But the main benefit of military fitness regimes is the variety of the sessions. Both companies recognise that a lot of people give up on fitness is because they become bored, so each week includes workouts with team games, paired exercises, circuits, strength work and running to keep you interested.
If you fancy taking on the challenge, check out www.forcesfit.co.uk or www.britmilfit.com for classes near you.
