Review: The Red Lion

October 3, 2011
The Red Lion country pub offers locally-sourced rustic dining at a very reasonable price.

For starters, I enjoyed a thick, creamy tomato soup and fresh crusty bred, while full-flavoured Dorset Down mushrooms were also available.
This was followed by a rugged Dorset steak, slow-cooked over night and served with a delectable dollop of thick gravy with carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. The beef and ale pie with Blue Vinny, chips and vegetable was also finely crafted and rich in taste.

If these farmhouse portions are not enough to fill you, there are puddings galore to enjoy. I plumped for warm waffles, ice cream and syrup.

The Red Lion is located in Winfrith Newburgh, Dorchester, Dorset, DT2 8LE. For more information, call 01305 852814.
