In 1962 three teenagers stumble across an old hunting horn in Windsor Forest. One of them foolishly blows it and from somewhere deep in the forest an answering call is heard. Suddenly they hear the sound of baying hounds and horses all around, crashing through the trees and heading straight towards them…
Forty-six years later, the sole survivor is persuaded by a television production company to return to the forest with a small film crew to make a documentary exploring the legendary history of Herne the Hunter. Along the way, they hope to unravel the puzzle of what happened that fateful night and put to rest the spectral image of the horned and hooded man that has haunted him for so long. On camera, he retells the story of that night; off camera, he re-lives the nightmare. And he is not alone in his fears. As death again comes stalking through the trees, the crew find more truth in his tale than they could dare to imagine. Relentlessly pursued and completely cut off from the outside world, it soon becomes apparent that no-one is going to get out alive. The hooded man is back. His haunting call echoes through the forest, summoning all to his cause. He wants back what is rightly his - and will stop at nothing to get it!
