Bournemouth University (BU) will host a unique recital by special guest musicians from the United States on Friday, 7 May at 7.30 pm.
The Lyric Duo of soprano Eva Peng and pianist Anthony Olson will present a lecture recital in Talbot House, the University’s Student Centre on the Talbot Campus. The husband and wife team are based in Missouri but are currently enjoying a 4-week residency at the Roosevelt Academy in Middleburg, Holland. In addition to an active touring schedule, Eva and Anthony both teach at Northwest Missouri State University.
The first half of their program will be a lecture recital dedicated to the Mazurkas or stylized Polish folk dances of Frederic Chopin and vocal transcriptions of these works made by Pauline Viardot. Vairdot, a famous vocalist in the nineteenth century, studied music with Chopin, who was enthusiastic about her vocal transcriptions. The second half of the program will include Robert Schumann’s song cycle Liederkreis, Op 39, and solo piano works by nineteenth century American pianist/composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk.
